Tampa Electric's Manatee Viewing Center Reopens November 1st

The best time of the year is finally here—our Manatee Viewing Center (MVC) reopens to the public on November 1. The center continues to offer a unique, family-friendly experience where guests can observe and learn about the gentle giants of Tampa Bay.

Located on Tampa Electric’s 500-acre Florida Conservation and Technology Center campus in Apollo Beach, MVC is adjacent to our Big Bend Power Station. The power station draws water from Tampa Bay for cooling then returns clean, warm water into our adjoining canal. During cool months, manatees gather by the hundreds to bask in our state and federally designated manatee sanctuary, enjoying critical protection from the cold, and providing an up-close look for thousands of visitors.

In addition to manatee sightings, MVC guests can explore educational exhibits, stroll along the tidal walk and take in sweeping views from the 50-foot observation tower—all at no cost. Parking and admission are free for all visitors.

We’re excited to welcome the community back for another season of exploring Florida’s remarkable wildlife and natural beauty. The MVC will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., November 1 through April 15.

Come discover for yourself why MVC has been voted as the nation’s second-best free attraction for three years running in the USA Today 10BestReaders’ Choice awards. Plan your visit and experience one of Florida’s most treasured wildlife experiences.
